Frequently Asked Questions
Here are the basic ways to get started:
Primary care exams for adults | For grownups with, or without symptoms
Clear vision is essential to your overall health and well-being. That’s why it’s so important to schedule a comprehensive eye checkup on a regular basis, even if you don’t have any visual symptoms. Regular eye exams focus on early detection of serious disease and any corrective treatment necessary to optimize your visual acuity.
Pediatric eye care | For infants and children, with or without symptoms
Pediatric eye care is especially important, because young children have no frame of reference for their visual acuity—they might not be aware able to express any concern about their eyesight. Our pediatric exams use advanced technologies to detect any vision problems and ensure healthy eye development during each stage of childhood growth.
Contact lens care | For patients who wear contacts, with or without symptoms
Our services for contact lens wearers include the precise fitting essential for optimized correction of nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and other vision problems. Your doctor will help you navigate the many lens choices available and decide which is the best for you.
Specialized care | For patients with eye diseases or vision impairment
Precision Eye Group doctors evaluate and treat patients with a variety of conditions, such as glaucoma, age-related eye disorders, diabetic and hypertensive eye disease, dry eye, and more. We also provide pre- and postoperative care to patients who undergo surgical procedures for cataracts, laser vision correction and other reasons.
Good question! Here’s what to bring along to make your office visit as productive and effective as possible:
• If you currently wear glasses, bring them with you.
• If you have vision insurance, please bring your insurance card. All copays and deductibles are due at the time of your appointment.
• If you are having problems or complaints with your eyes or vision, write down a list of symptoms to talk about with your doctor.
• We also recommend bringing a list of any medications you are currently taking, both prescription and over-the-counter.
Plan on arriving a few minutes before your scheduled appointment time to fill out insurance and health information forms. You can choose to complete this part of your visit online in your patient portal before you arrive. Most office visits and exams will take 1-2 hours and progress in a few stages:
Getting started
Before you see the doctor, you’ll start with a Precision Eye Group technician, who will have some basic questions for you, such as:
• How long has it been since your last visit?
• Do you have any concerns or complaints about your vision?
• Do you have any underlying health issues, such as hypertension, diabetes, etc.?
• What medications are you currently taking?
Basic health checks
Next, your technician will bring you to a testing station to measure your field of vision and the fluid pressure within your eyes. These tests can reveal possible serious concerns and will help the doctor assess your eye health.
After these short tests, it’s time to go to the exam room. The technician will then give you a basic vision acuity test—the familiar wall chart with letters and numbers.
Time to see the doctor
After reviewing your history and earlier tests, your doctor may continue your visual acuity work with some corrective lenses to determine if prescription eyewear or contacts might improve your eyesight. Next, using state-of-the-art imaging technology, the doctor will look deep inside your eyes and examine the inner structures and anatomy for any early signs of serious disease. Sometimes it may be necessary to dilate your pupils during this part of the exam.
Next steps
At the end of your exam, the doctor will share an assessment of your visual acuity and overall eye health. Depending on the results of your exam, she or he will recommend corrective lenses, medications or other treatment options that would be beneficial.
